The 2010 season began this past Saturday at the Northview Golf Club on the Canal course. This years opening day was expected to be one of the better starts with plenty of sunshine instead of the usual rain as is common at this time of year, however, Mother Nature decided to throw us a curve with early morning frost. With all the tee times pushed back a full hour from our expected starting time the field was reduced to 40 players from the original 48 member field.
We did manage to get all 40 players completing their rounds before the sun gave way. The scores for the tournament were surprisingly good for the first week of the season. The average gross score for the “A” Division was 85 with a average net score of even par 72. On the “B” side, 101 was the average gross with a net score of 76.
The “A” Division went to a tiebreaker to determine the winner with Vic Legaspi taking the top spot over Rene Cusi, both players carded rounds of net 67. Vic bogeyed the first hole then reeled off 7 straight pars to shoot 38 on the front side, his 39 on the back nine included 4 more pars and 1 birdie for a total of 77, the best of the day.
Jay Isaac took the title in the “B” Division with a score of net 62, 5 shots better than his nearest rivals. Jay recorded 3 pars and 2 birdies on the front nine with 1 par and 1 birdie on the last nine to shoot a round of 86.
It didn’t take long to get our first “eagle” of the season with Rody Rongavilla recording a 2 on the par 4 13th hole.
The winners of the KP’s this week were, Lance Kraus on #3, Jay Isaac on #6, Vic Legaspi on #14 and Ellis Natividad on #17.
