This weeks tournament at the Hazelmere Golf Club was the 2008 Presidents Cup pitting Team President against Team Vice President. The match play format was expected to be a close battle between the 2 evenly matched teams, however, Team President jumped out to an early lead which proved too much for Team Vice President to come back from. The team in Red, captained by Jun Tan, took 6 and tied 1 of the first 8 matches to go on to defeat the Black Team, Captained by Bob Hayes, 9 1/2 points to 6 1/2 points.

The KP winners were Jun Tan, Butch Cusi, GV Fragante and Kevin Jewell.

2008 Presidents Cup Results

Swaneset Golf Club was the site for the last of the Club Championship tournaments with a field of 52 entered. The course played tough with only 5 players managing to come in under par. This weeks winners were Binky Cruz in the “A” Division and Dick Elrick in the “B” Division.

Binky recorded 10 pars on his way to a round of 82, net 63, to take the Division by 8 strokes over runner-up Paul Dhaliwal. This was Binky’s first win of the season. In the “B” Division Dick got his second win in a row with a score of 96, net 68, and a 1 stroke victory over Jay Isaac.

This Years Club Champions were crowned this week with Rudy Alcantara and Ren Cusi taking their respective divisions. Rudy’s three round total of 9 under par was 6 shots better than second place finisher Jess Supnet. Rene recorded a three round total of minus 10 to take the honours in the “B” division by 4 strokes over Celso Manubay.

The Player of The Year award was also decided this weekend with Ken Emerson taking the title by a single point over Rene Cusi.

This weeks KP winners were Celso Manubay, “big” Dick Elrick, Ryan Isaac and Wilson Canupin.

We are pleased to announce the addition of another tournament date, it will take place at the Guildford Golf Club on Saturday Oct. 4th. The time and cost will be posted in the near future, members can signup by using the tournament signup form.

The date for the Awards Banquet has been moved to Friday October 10th Saturday, October 18th, the venue remains the same, the Mariott Hotel in Richmond starting at 6:00 p.m.

Surrey Golf Club hosted round 3 of the Club Championship on Sept. 6th with a field of 51 entered. This week saw 2 first time winners taking both divisions, Lance Kraus took a 1 shot victory in the “A” Division with Dick Elrick taking the “B” division by 5 shots.

Lance shot the low round of the day on his way to victory, his 79 net 67, was good enough to beat out runner-up Rudy Alcantara by a single stroke. Lance’s round included 7 pars, 2 birdies and 9 bogeys. In the “B” division Dick fired off 8 pars on his round of 86 net 58 to take the title over Dave Hollinshead by 5 shots.

In the final of the 2008 Match Play event Fred Marasigan defeated Butch Cusi 1 up. The match was close all day with Fred taking it on the 18th hole, Congratulations Fred.

This weeks KP winners were Ken Emerson, Randy Gonzales, Lynn Stevenson and Jay Isaac.

Rudy Alcantara and Rene Cusi take the lead going into the final week on the Club Championship. Rudy holds a 6 shot lead over Jess Supnet, with Rene 4 shots in front of Celso Manubay.

Next week will decide the winner of the Player of The Year, it is a 2 man race with Rene Cusi holding a 3 point advantage over Ken Emerson.

Update September 16, 2008

The election of the Directors for the upcoming term took place this past weekend. The new Directors are: Bob Hayes, Jun Tan, Menchie Tan, James Gonzaga, Mark Pitman, Rene Trinidad, Oscar Apacible, Tony Marasigan and Ken Emerson.

Thank you to everyone who voted either by the website or in person.

It’s election time again, the election of Club Directors for the 2009-2010 term will take place at Swaneset on September 13th.

If any member is interested in serving as a Director you are urged to put your name on the ballot. To register as a candidate simply enter you name through the form at the bottom of the “contact us” page. The contact us link can be found by clicking the About Us button on the top toolbar.

Round 2 of the Club Championship was played this weekend at the Carnoustie Golf Club with a pair of 2 time winners taking both the “A” and “B” divisions.

Rudy Alcantara shot a round of 82, net 68, to take the “A” division by 2 strokes over Willie Ducay and Jess Supnet. Rudy carded 9 pars on his round to go along with 7 bogies and 2 double bogies. Along with his victory Rudy also takes the lead in the Club Championship with a 2 round total of 5 under par 1 shot better than Jess Supnet.

In the “B” division Cholo Cebrero got win number 2 on a round of 85, net 65, and a 4 stroke edge over Rene Cusi. Cholo recorded 10 pars along with 5 bogies and 3 triple bogies for the day.

Rene’s 2nd place finish vaulted him into the lead of Point Standings with a 3 point lead. He also takes the lead in the “B” division Club Championship at -9, 8 shots up on Celso Manubay.

Butch Cusi took the first round of the Match Play Event with a 2 and 1 victory over Fred Marasigan, with the win Butch forces a 2nd match with Fred this Saturday at Surrey.
