This weekends Tournament saw the start of the 2008 Club Championships played at the Pt. Roberts Golf Club with a field of 40 entered. With the warm and dry conditions combined with tricky greens 17 players managed to post scores of par or better, less than half the field.

James Gonzaga’s return to the “A” Division proved to be a good one. James took a 1 shot victory over Jess Supnet and Butch Cusi with a round of 88, net 68. His round included 4 pars and 1 birdie. In the “B” division Rene Cusi got his 3rd win of the year on a round of 86, net 65, and a 1 stroke advantage over Michael Anthony. Rene carded 6 pars and 1 birdie on the round.

This weeks KP winners were Ken Emerson with 2, with Jarett Hayes and Jess Supnet each getting 1.

In the semi-final of the Match Play Event Butch Cusi defeated Felix Banting 3 and 2. The final is set with Fred Marasigan and Butch Cusi squaring off for the title.

In the “A” side of the Club Championships Butch Cusi and Jess Supnet share top spot at 3 under par with Rene Cusi taking the lead on the “B” side at minus 7.

The Player of the Year race got closer this week thanks to Rene’s win, he moves into 2nd spot only 5 points behind the leader.

This weeks tournament was played at the Royalwoods Golf club in Chilliwack under hot, sunny conditions. Despite the hot conditions the scores were very good with 12 out of the 30 participants coming in at par or better. This weeks winners were Ryan Isaac in the “A” Division and Ken Emerson in the “B” Division.

Ryan shot a round of 75, net 63, to take the top spot in the “A” division by 3 strokes over runner-up Bob Hayes. Despite a rough start of 3 over par in the first 2 holes Ryan went on to par 12 holes and birdied 2 others, this was his 1st win of the season.

In the “B” division Ken got his 5th win of the year on a round of 81, net, 61, and a 5 stroke advantage over Dave Hollinshead. Ken recorded 6 pars and 2 birdies on his round.

Ryan led the way in pars for the day with his 12 while Robin Perrin posted 5 birdies on his round, Lance Kraus recorded the 2nd eagle of the year on the Par 5 6th hole.

The KP winners this week were Kevin Jewell, Dave Hollinshead, Robin Perrin and Ken Emerson.

With his win this week Ken takes a 9 point lead in the race for the Player of The Year honours, with the next 4 tournaments counting as Majors and 12 points up for grabs to the winners the race for the title is far from over.

Ft. Langley Golf Club was the host site for the August 9th tournament and the 6th Major tournament of the year with 28 members teeing it up in search of the titles. With the rain holding off players took advantage of the conditions with 17 players scoring par or better. In the “A” division Marc Thomas got his first win of the year with a round of net 64. On the “B” side Celso Manubay also recorded his first win with a score of 67 and a tie-breaker victory over Frank Wongsoo and Rene Cusi.

This weeks KP winners were Felix Banting with 2, Michael Ahkong, Frank Wongsoo and GV Fragante.

In the lone Match Play event Felix Banting defeated Dom Cejalvo and advanced to the semi-final against Butch Cusi.

The following are the players who have played the required 10 games to be eligible to compete in the 2008 Club Championship

The August 24 tournament at the Pt. Roberts Golf Club is the 1st round of the 2008 Club Championships, this years Champions will be determined over the 4 events. The winner will be chosen by using a total score from the best 3 rounds played. Good Luck to everyone. Just a reminder to everyone, if you have not qualified for the Championship the next 4 dates are still played as Major Tournaments with trophies to the winners and points available for Player of the Year Standings.

Surrey Golf Club was the site for the August 2nd tournament with a total of 44 members entered. Scoring this week was the best of the year with 25 members carding scores of par or better. In the “A” Division Butch Cusi recorded his 2nd victory of the year with a score of 74, net 67, and a 1 shot victory over Bob Hayes. Butch’s round included 7 pars and 5 birdies on the day. On the “B” side Ken Emerson got his 2nd win in a row and his 4th of the year with a round of 87, net 64, and a 2 shot win over Boy Holgado and Rene Trinidad. His round included 6 pars and 1 birdie.

In the Match Play event Dom Cejalvo defeated Menchie Tan 2 and 1 to advance to the next round against Felix Banting this weekend at Ft. Langley. The winner will take on Butch Cusi in the semi-final.
