ParBreakers News and Updates

Week 29 of the schedule was the last of the regular season tournaments for the year. Peace Portal Golf Club was the site for this tournament, and our first time playing at this venue with positive reviews from everyone involved.

This week saw 2 players both getting their 3rd wins of the season, with Martin Abel taking the “A” division title and Garry Charles claiming the title in the “B” division. Martin recorded 8 pars and 1 birdie on his way to a round of 8 under par 64 and a 1 shot victory over JoJo Hernandez. Garry shot a round of 67, 5 under par, to win by 1 stroke over runner-up Jun Tan.

The KP winners this week were, Martin Abel, Dom Cejalvo, Kevin Jewell and Reden Hernandez. The best individual performances go to JoJo Hernandez with 11 pars for the day, and Rene De Leon for his 2 birdies.

This weekend was also the final round of the Club Championships. In the “A” division, 5 players entered the round tied for the lead at -3 with Martin coming out on top on the strength of his final round 64 to take the “A” division Championhip by 4 shots over Rene De Leon. Martin ended up with a 3 game total of 11 under par.

On the “B” side, Dom Cejalvo started the day with a 2 shot lead over Fred Marasigan and Jay Isaac. Dom shot a round of 69, 3 under par to take the Championship by 5 shots over Jay Isaac. Dom ended up with a 3 round total of 10 under par. Congratulations to our 2007 Club Champions for a great playoff. Both Martin and Dom will be the team captains for the Oct. 6th Presidents Cup and will be making the player lineups following the tournament this weekend at Swaneset.

The final of the Match Play event was also played this weekend with Robin Perrin and Doug Lauson squaring off. The match was all square up to the 10th hole, then Doug took control of the match winning 4 of the next 6 holes to take the match 4 and 3. With Doug’s victory these two will meet again to see who will be crowned Match Play Champion, the final match will take place at Northview on Oct. 6th.

This weekends tournament at Swaneset will be the Players Championship. The title will go to the player with the low net score, there will be no “A” and “B” division split for this tournament.

2007 Match Play Event Final

September 22nd Match

• Doug Lauson defeated Robin Perrin (4 and 3)

Hazelmere Golf Course hosted round 3 of the 2007 Club Championships this past Saturday. The scores reflected the fast greens and tough pin positions, with only 4 players coming in under par.

Rene De Leon recorded his 4th win of the season with a round of 2 under par 70. Rene carded 6 pars and 1 birdie on his round. On the “B” side, Dom Cejalvo shot a round of 6 under par 66 with 4 pars and 1 birdie along the way to record his 3rd win of the year.

GV Fragante recorded the most pars for the day with 11, while 7 players shared the lead in the birdie category with only 1 each.

The winners of the closest to the pin prizes were: Dave Giles, JoJo Hernandez, and GV Fragante with 2.

Robin Perrin got a 3rd place finish this week to capture the title of “Player of the Year” for the 2007 season.

Next weekend will be our first trip to the Peace Portal Golf Club which will be site for the final round of the Club Championship. The final round is shaping up to be an exciting finish with 5 players tied for the lead in the “A” division at -3. In the “B” division Dom Cejalvo enters the final round holding on to a 2 shot advantage over 2 other players.

Next Saturday will also see the Finals of the “Match Play” being played between Robin Perrin and Doug Lauson. If Robin wins the match he will be crowned Match Play Champion, if Doug holds on to win, another match will take place Sept. 29 at Swaneset. These two met earlier in the year with Robin winning on the 18th hole of the match, this time around we can expect much of the same. Good Luck to both players.

Tournament Update

The Presidents Cup Tournament on October 6th is now scheduled to start at 8:30am. This will give everyone a chance to finish early and attend the year end party that will follow the round.

Round 2 of the Club Championship was held on Saturday at the Carnoustie Golf Club under ideal playing conditions. Once again the course proved to be tough with only 3 players posting scores under par. Three first time winners emerged in each division, with Bob Hayes taking the “A” division, George Chua winning the “B” division and Susan Emerson taking the Ladies Title.

Bob carded 5 pars on his way to a 1 over par 72 and took the title in a tie-breaker over 3 other players, Reden, Rene De Leon and Felix.

George also carded 5 pars for the day on his way to a 4 under par round of 67 to take the title by 2 strokes over Ken.

Susan got her first win of the year on a round of 1 over par 73 and a 3 shot victory over runner-up Lynne Lim.

This weeks KP winners were: Aaron, Reden, Lance, Randy Moore, Marissa and Shamira.

This weeks top performers were Felix with 3 birdies, with Reden, Doug Hume and Marty all coming in with 9 pars each.

In the Match Play event, Doug Lauson defeated Dave Giles in a tie-breaker to advance to the final against Robin Perrin.

In the Ladies Club Championship, Lynne Lim came into the day 2 shots behind Marissa Fragante. Lynne shot a round of 4 over par 76 with Marissa coming in at 8 over par 80, giving Lynne the title of Ladies Club Champion by 2 strokes. Congratulations Lynne on an excellent year of golf!!

With 2 tournaments remaining in which to receive points the race for the title of Player of the Year is heating up. Robin Perrin leads the way with 69 pts. with 4 other players having a chance to overtake him. With a 2nd place finish this weekend Robin will wrap up the title.

Bob Hayes, Dave Hollinshead, James Gonzaga and Randy Gonzales all have a shot at taking the title, with several different possibilities depending on what Robin does in the last 2 weeks. Each of these 4 must have at least 1 win in the next 2 weeks, good luck to everyone!

Club Championship Reminder

Saturday Sept. 1st is the 1st round of both the Mens and Ladies Club Championships. All handicaps are now frozen for the next 4 rounds. New handicaps will be reflected on the Oct. 6th tournament.
